On this page I will post special achievements of the orchestra students.

Please join me in congratulating Megan for being        accepted to the Kennedy Honors Orchestra!!

Students are chosen via application and level of playing from all over eastern Iowa.

Most students are in 8th and 9th grade, but Megan was accepted as a 6th grader!!

This is a tremendous honor for Megan and a fun way to get a "pay back" from all

those hours of practice in the last several years!

On March 1st, Megan will travel to Cedar Rapids.  After chair placement auditions,

both groups will rehearse throughout the day and conclude with a 6:00 p.m. concert.

Let's wish her luck on the March 1st audition!

=============================================================

Two students from our orchestra were accepted in to the Kennedy Honors Orchestra Festival this year; 2007!

Luke, 6th Grade Violist from Hansen
Isak, 6th Grade Bass from Lincoln

This Festival gets better each year and the level of playing is very high. In fact, most players in this group are in 7-9th grade.

Congratulations Luke & Isak!!
=============================================================

Erik and Meera on 1st violin;
Andrea, Rhydian & Elena on 2nd violin;
Elizabeth, Furkan, Jacob on viola;
Alexis & Aaron on cello;
Ben on double-bass.

Congratulations to you all!!!

For those of you who are not familiar with the process of being accepted:

1.) Your teacher nominates you for selection. He/she writes makes comments to the judge about the player like, "this student shifts to 3rd position" or "this students is working in Suzuki Bk. 4" or "this student has developed a good sense of rhythm and has a nice vibrato."

2.) The judge chooses students from all over easter Iowa from grades 6-9, to fill 2 orchestras; the green and the gold. (This is Kennedy High School's colors.)

3.) Music is sent and each students has approximately 2 weeks to work on 5-6 pieces.

4.) On the first Saturday in March, they travel to Cedar Rapids and warm-up for chair adutitions first thing in the morning at 9AM.

5.) They begin rehearsals which last all day. (With breaks, lunch and dinner.)

6.) Both orchestra's have a chance to work with a guest conductor and perform that evening at 7PM.
They wear black bottoms and white shirts.

This event is open to all 6th graders again in March, 2007,  so if you are interested in participating, be sure to let your teacher know.
